Understanding the Media really matters – now more than ever.
The Media has a profound and fundamental influence on our lives. From the moment we wake up and flick on the radio or TV to last thing at night, we are bombarded with thousands of messages and headlines via television, radio, newsprint, the internet, magazines, social media sites... the list goes on.
We’ve seen the incredibly exciting development of blogs and the rise of the citizen journalist, allowing everyone to enter the debate and get their voice heard. Media campaigns have moved on line; viral emails have burst out of the digital world and into the printed media; blogs are quoted in the mainstream press. The Media is no longer just a reflection of our culture, it IS our culture.
But while this galloping rate of change has opened up sometimes bafflingly wide horizons on the media landscape, much has remained the same. The channels are certainly different and changing but, for many of us, our needs and wants remain the same: clear information about what is going on in the world and what we need to know – from a trusted source or number of sources. So gaining cut through with the aggregators of that myriad of content – journalists or otherwise – is as vital as it ever was. That is why great media skills are a prerequisite for us.
At Edelman we want to be famous for delivering great media for our clients. We believe that while the ‘thud’ of a client’s coverage book may have been replaced by the click of an email attachment, getting the right message across, in the right way, with the right media is at the heart of a really great PR agency. It’s what Edelman is about.
