Carolyn Paul has more than 25 years of experience in the public relations industry. A leading expert in international healthcare communications, Carolyn is highly skilled at developing and directing global communications strategies and programmes; creating all types of communication material; marketing pharmaceutical and consumer products; leveraging and communicating about clinical trials; corporate positioning; implementing media relations campaigns; community and professional advocacy; developed and developing world communications; and running global events and major medical meetings.

Carolyn’s expertise in the healthcare arena spans the broad spectrum of products and services from over-the-counter products such as Alka-Seltzer to prescription pharmaceutical drugs like Zyvox. Her work has touched upon numerous therapeutic areas, including allergy, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, osteoporosis, depression, Alzheimer’s Disease, HIV/AIDS, immunology, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis and smoking cessation.

Prior to joining Edelman, Carolyn was managing director at interSCIENCE London, where she designed and directed both global and national programmes for a wide variety of clients and products. From 1993 to 2000 she directed global communications programmes for Merck & Co Inc.’s cardiovascular franchise (Zocor, Mevacor, Cozaar, Renitec and Aggrastat) which included the international launch of the results of the landmark Scandinavian Simvastatin Survival Study, which revolutionized prescribing patterns for cholesterol-lowering agents. During this period, Carolyn also directed communications for Merck’s HIV product portfolio and highlights included the launch of Crixivan and Stocrin, two products which were for many years the cornerstone of antiretroviral therapy.

Carolyn was previously Associate Director at Hill & Knowlton, where she directed accounts for SmithKline Beecham, Schering-Plough, and Ciba-Geigy. At H&K Carolyn was part of the team that launched the first nicotine patch in the U.K. and directed the global launch programmes of many other blockbuster products including Seroxat/Paxil and Clarityne.

At Edelman, Carolyn has particular responsibility for the development of global strategy, and perfecting the co-ordination of integrated global communications, for clients targeting multiple markets and regions around the world. Increasingly this involves creating campaigns which target the consumer as well as healthcare professionals, policy makers and payers. Carolyn is also frequently asked to bring her health expertise to bear for consumer clients in the beauty, food and nutrition sectors. She provides strategic leadership on global programs for clients, franchises, portfolios and brands.
