The Prime Minister addressed the virtual Conservative Party Conference yesterday, urging the country to look beyond COVID-19 and focus on the “bright future ahead”. He pledged investment to drive the UK towards a green economy, promising that by 2030 all UK homes would be powered by renewable offshore wind energy. The Prime Minister offered support for workers who have seen their jobs disappear to help people transition towards new, high-skilled work. However, amid criticism from all sides over the Government’s handling of the pandemic, and the immediate backlash from some elements of the business community to the speech, Boris Johnson faces an uphill struggle to convince voters that he can be trusted to deliver on the UK’s economic recovery.
