Chuka leads Edelman’s consultancy practice which provides clients with counsel on managing environmental, social and governance factors (ESG), based out of Smithfield , Edelman’s specialist capital markets and financial services team.
He is a solicitor (non-practising) who worked for several years at City law firm Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, advising companies on employment law including litigation, transactional (M&A etc) and advisory matters before he was elected to Parliament.
From 2010-2019 he was the Member of Parliament for Streatham, serving as Shadow Business Secretary and in other senior posts leading on public policy relating to the role of business, stakeholder capitalism and how companies should integrate ESG into corporate decision making. During this time he co-founded the annual Small Business Saturday in the UK and helped lead the successful campaign against the hostile takeover of AstraZeneca by Pfizer.
He is also contributor to Forbes, the business magazine, where he writes on leadership strategy, business and economic policy, and how ESG is impacting on companies’ long term value.
