Bristol Is Open

The Smart City of the Future

Bristol Is Open

The Smart City of the Future

Overview

The city of Bristol has launched a multi-million pound experiment to create the smart city of the future. Known as Bristol Is Open, the project is turning Bristol into a giant laboratory, looking at how we can solve problems such as air, traffic congestion and assisted living for the elderly. The project is a joint venture between the University of Bristol and Bristol City Council to turn the city into a high-tech testbed for innovation, with the UK’s first data visualisation auditorium and a 30 Gigabit per second fibre broadband network powering the ambitious research programmes.

Edelman organised an exclusive media tour on the day of the launch. Focusing on IT and Telecommunications trade press, our efforts resulted in a team of journalists attending the day, including technology magazine Wired. Bristol is now officially ‘open’ with coverage in a host of trade publications and a feature in Wired UK, which has been shared more than 2,000 times. As a direct result of media coverage, Bristol is Open received a number of enquiries from international companies eager to learn about the project.
