London's Leicester Square becomes Xbox One Square

Insight

With competitor Sony's PlayStation 4 launching a week later than Xbox One, the pressure was on to make the Xbox One launch the entertainment story of 2013.

Idea

Xbox One Square X1

Xbox One was the first brand in the world to take over and rename London's Leicester Square. A one-day festival of games and entertainment brought to life the world of Xbox One for gamers, media, influencers, and the general public.

Over 2000 fans watched the first ever live performance in Leicester square

Zombies, romans and other game characters mingled with the crowds. In the first ever free live show in Leicester Square's gardens, acts including Plan B performed on stage in a two hour live show.

At midnight, the Trocadero became the UK's first ever gaming pop-up store

Hundreds of fans played Xbox One on the UK's biggest High Definition screen as the final countdown to launch.

Impact

Xbox One was the fastest-selling console launch in Microsoft history, with one million sold in the first 24 hours. Negative media coverage dramatically reduced from 38% to only 3% at launch, with Xbox One dominating media share over PlayStation's 44% with 56%.
