Once considered the business of patients, physicians, pharmaceutical companies and hospitals, health is now everyone’s business.

This is a responsibility and an opportunity that applies to individuals, organisations and societies alike. Health is beyond purely physical.

It’s everything from self-care to prevention, diagnosis to treatment, caregiving to cure. It must be inclusive and representative.

We believe trust makes the difference at every touchpoint. At Edelman Health, our goal is to help our clients confidently rise to the challenges of our changing world.

We counsel our clients to embrace the new demands of a wider set of stakeholders and to act boldly to earn and keep their trust.

Carolyn’s expertise in the healthcare arena spans almost every sector including launching revolutionary pharmaceutical products (therapeutics and vaccines) and medical devices, and directing communications for organisations as diverse as Alzheimers Disease International and Unilever.  Her work has touched upon numerous areas including almost every aspect of cardiovascular and metabolic disease, CNS disorders (including depression and Parkinson’s disease), HIV/AIDS, infectious disease, osteoporosis, allergy, immunology, oncology, rheumatology, respiratory disease and diagnostics.

Prior to joining Edelman, Carolyn was managing director at interSCIENCE London, where she designed and directed both global and national campaigns for a wide variety of clients and products.  From 1993 to 2000 she directed global communications programmes for Merck & Co Inc.’s cardiovascular franchise (Zocor, Mevacor, Cozaar, Renitec and Aggrastat) which included the international launch of the results of the landmark Scandinavian Simvastatin Survival Study, which revolutionized prescribing patterns for cholesterol-lowering agents literally overnight.  During this period, Carolyn also directed communications for Merck’s HIV product portfolio and launched new classes of therapy which began the evolution of HIV from a death sentence to a chronic disease.

Carolyn was previously Associate Director at Hill & Knowlton, where she was part of the team that launched the first nicotine patch in the UK and directed the global launch programmes of many other blockbuster products including Seroxat/Paxil and Clarityne.  Carolyn was a leader of the team that supported Wellcome and Burroughs-Wellcome’s activities in HIV, including managing the outcome of controversial clinical trials of AZT and devising the first global programme of care, education and community support developed by any pharmaceutical company in the field.

At Edelman, Carolyn has particular responsibility for the development of global strategy, providing high level consultancy to senior clients and perfecting the design and execution of integrated global communications marketing campaigns, for clients who operate in multiple markets and regions around the world.  Increasingly this involves creating campaigns which target the consumer as well as healthcare professionals, policy makers and payers. Carolyn is also frequently asked to bring her health expertise to bear for consumer clients in the beauty, food and nutrition sectors.
