We caught up with Fariha Rahman, Senior Account Executive, Corporate Affairs, as she reflects on her time on the Edelman Open scheme.

Why did you join the Edelman Open scheme?

I graduated from university after reading Law and realised I wanted to pursue a career in PR and Communications, I thought the scheme was an excellent way to understand the industry and what I wanted to specifically do. I was able to rotate around the company and spend time with Unilever, Corporate, Public Affairs and the Influencer marketing team. The scheme allowed me to meet new teams/people and understand the type of work each team is involved in.

What does a typical day in your role look like?

I work in the Corporate Affairs team, with various clients and I can honestly say there are no two days that are the same (as cliché as that sounds!). However, it consists of media monitoring, media relations, account planning & coordination, social/article/newsletter content creation, international hub support, managing design time and more…

What’s been your favourite project/campaign to work on?

This is a hard question because there have been some really cool projects I've been able to work on. A few highlights include supporting the Employee Experience team with Mars Petcare Superpower Dogs, supporting the WhatsApp team on exciting campaigns and announcements.

What advice would you give to others applying to the Edelman Open scheme?

Be curious and open to trying and learning new things!

How do you see your career path developing?

I've always seen progression here at Edelman and I look to keep on growing within the company, I'm also looking forward to working on more fantastic clients and with other teams within the business.

Fariha joined the Edelman Open scheme in 2019.

Applications for Edelman Open 2022 are now closed.
