This week, PRWeek named Lucy Davies, Associate Director at Edelman, as one of their 30 Under 30. The list, which includes a range of agency and in-house PR professionals, showcases emerging industry talent. Here’s what Lucy had to say on being selected.
Stop. Think. Reflect. Repeat.
For my recent PR Week Award, I was tasked to think about my proudest achievements over my career to date. I started mentally going over my seven year history at Edelman, and all the amazing brands I’ve worked on and the experiences I’ve been lucky enough to have. It quickly occurred to me that stopping, thinking and reflecting is not something I do very often. Working in such a fast-paced industry means that once one big thing is done, it’s on to the next one, with barely a chance to breathe. We grow accustomed to the pace and thrive on the challenges that come our away.
Reflecting certainly made me smile. I thought back to being an AAE, getting my first taste of Technology PR at Edelman and loving it. I admire the women that hired me, who are still here today in leadership roles, and I really value the mentorship they’ve given me over the years. I think about all the friends I have made during the late nights and early morning starts to put the finishing touches on a campaign before it launched. I thought about the epiphany I had when I realised that I loved all things enterprise technology and I’ve been getting my geek on ever since. I’m grateful that my directors gave me the opportunity and space to build an expert team, and I’ve loved the responsibility that has since come my way. I remember the Christmas we won a number of enterprise technology clients, all at the same time, some of the best brands in the industry, and feeling extremely proud. I also smile at the thought of the colleagues who were on that journey and I’ve enjoyed seeing them to progress to where they are today.
There are also campaigns, awards, trips and client relationships that I’m also proud of experiencing, but none of them would have been possible without being here. That’s what I’m truly proud of.
I challenge everyone to spend some time reflecting. Enjoy the memories that come your way.
